Halcyon Levi

Halcyon Levi is an accomplished young artist that began drawing to transform her childhood stories into a visual narrative. Her art, inspired through her surroundings and home state of Oklahoma, uses a variety of wildlife from tiny hummingbirds to large buffalos. Levi often finds a sense of accomplishment and pride when she sees her art on display, reminding her of the hard work and effort she has put into creating her one-of-a-kind pieces.

Levi is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes and a 2022 graduate of Mustang High School. She plans to study Anthropology at the University of Denver.

Artist Statement

As a young, Cheyenne Woman, I feel it is Imperative to use my art as a way to tell the story of the Cheyenne Peoples' struggle that day at Washita.

It was a horrible day, but the strength of the people showed that day and the days following and we have overcome that day and are still here as survivors to tell the story that was taken away from many of our people on November 27th, 1868.
